Community CornerCurrent Community Projects
Be a part of Leadership Broward Class XXIX! During its unparalleled 28-year history, the Leadership Broward Foundation (LBF) has organized, guided and overseen the successful completion of over 366 community projects. Each year, the Leadership Broward class contributes over 4,500 volunteer service hours to the community, a value of $200,000. This fall, LBF will be entering its 29th year of achieving excellence in leadership in Broward County by “developing and inspiring individuals to serve our community," and we need your continued support to achieve this mission. We are now seeking project proposals from Broward County's community agencies and non-profit organizations for Leadership Broward Class XXIX. If you have a community project proposal that would fit Leadership Broward Foundation's qualifying criteria, please complete the proposal application (see link below) and return it to the Leadership Broward Foundation office no later than 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 16, 2010. What type of projects qualify? Proposed projects should be action-oriented (although they may also include research as part of their plan), with a clear and immediate value to the community upon its completion. Project proposals should be designed and drafted with the understanding that the Leadership Broward class is comprised of talented and professionally accomplished individuals. Project proposals must also have the approval of the appropriate governing body and provide the name of at least one organizational representative and one Board representative whose time will be committed to the project. Projects may not be fundraising in nature and should be able to be completed within the nine-month time frame mentioned above. Furthermore, the project description should include a plan for sustainability beyond the required time frame and, if selected, the team assigned to the project must be given the opportunity to attend a Board meeting before embarking on their project as well as upon completion of their project. There will be an Informational Meeting on Thursday, July 29, 2010, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at Broward General Medical Center to answer any questions you may have regarding the process, the framing of an appropriate project, or the completion of the enclosed proposal form. Please RSVP by July 28, 2010 to Leadership Broward Foundation at (954) 767-8866. Following a review of all proposals, a number of projects will be selected. LBF will notify the agencies and ask them to participate in a Community Project Placement Fair on Thursday, September 23, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the BankAtlantic Corporate Center. The participant fee for this event is $25. Each selected agency will present its project proposal to the class. Additional details will be forthcoming regarding the format of the presentation. The LB Class XXIX participants will vote on their preferences and projects will be selected for the year. Leadership Broward Class XXIX will present their final projects on June 10, 2011 to a panel of community judges, who will score the written and verbal presentations on the basis of content and creativity, clarity of objectives and solutions for the project, as well as the evidence of worth to the community and usefulness to the agency. The winner of the Best Overall Project receives the $1000 “Solutions for Communities” Award, which is donated to the group’s respective community agency. It is mandatory that the liaison from each selected agency attend both the Placement Fair on September 23rd and the Community Projects’ Kick-Off on Thursday, October 7, 2010, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the BankAtlantic Corporate Center. It is critical that the liaison be available to answer any questions the group may have at this juncture, so that open communication and expectations are established and understood from the beginning. We look forward to receiving and reviewing your project application!
