His smile, friends and family said, was contagious. His sense of humor, bottomless. His sense of optimism, relentless.
When Sandy Roberts, 21, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 in a car accident outside of Bakersfield, California, he left a legacy characterized by frequent laughter and nearly unstoppable determination.
"He always started with a wall in front of him, and he always broke through that wall," said his father, Scott Roberts, of Hollywood.
There was nothing more evident to the staff and graduates of the Leadership Broward Foundation then Sandy's zest for life and determined tenacity. Sandy Roberts was a graduate of Youth Leadership Broward Class XX, and was a Youth Advisory Council member the following year for Class XXI. The lives he touched were forever changed by his joyous smile and his pure heart.
"This was a person who smiled a natural smile, and anyone who met him remembered him," his father said.
