Dear YLB Class XXVI Applicant,

Congratulations on your decision to apply for YLB Class XXVI!  Sixty current high school sophomores from across Broward County will be selected to participate in this nine-month program during their junior year. 

Before beginning the application, please read all of the following information carefully and make sure that you do not have any conflicts with the dates listed.  All applicants should confirm with a parent/guardian and school official before applying. 


The cost of the Program is $550.

Payment must be received in full by July 31, 2012.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a current sophomore attending a Broward County public or private high school with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrate leadership in their school and/or community
  • Have an interest in furthering their knowledge about Broward County and community leadership
  • Receive approval by a High School Principal and/or Guidance Counselor
  • Commit to FULL participation in the YLB program ~ Including the YLB Retreat (Mandatory - August 2012), Monthly Full-Day Program Days, Community Service Project, and Graduation (Mandatory - April 2013)

Student Commitments

  • Students are responsible for transportation to and from program day sites. Transportation will be provided by charter bus during the day
  • Monthly Program Days run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Participants will take part in a mandatory on-going community service project (this will require time outside of the scheduled YLB program dates)

Application Requirements

  • Fill out the application completely and return it to your school official by or before 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012
  • Complete the reference forms (below) and return them with your application by or before 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012 (give the reference form to an adult you know well)
  • Your School Official must review your application and complete the School Consent Form.  The COMPLETED application must be received by the LBF office by or before Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.

Selection Process

  • All applications will be reviewed by the YLB Class XXVI Selection Committee
  • YLB is committed to cultural and economic diversity and considers all students who have demonstrated leadership skills and talents
  • All applicants will be notified of the status of their Class XXVI application in May
