Leadership Broward Foundation

Marsicano Scholarship

The Marsicano Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to one outstanding graduate of the Youth Leadership Broward (YLB) program each year.  Recipients are chosen based on their outstanding leadership and service to others as demonstrated over the course of the program year.  Selection is made by the Leadership Broward Foundation staff members and volunteers who work directly with the YLB program.

Youth Leadership Broward is designed for high school juniors who have demonstrated leadership qualities within their schools and communities.  Each year, a class of 60 members is selected based on criteria assessing academic performance, involvement in extra-curriculum activities, and leadership potential. Approximately two youth per school are chosen.  These youth dedicate one day a month to YLB and spend that day learning about Broward County resources and issues.  YLB participants are also assigned a community project to develop in the course of the nine-month program.  Working in Community Project Groups, participants design a leadership curriculum and present this leadership training to children at a local Boys and Girls Club.

The Marsicano Scholarship was founded in 2004 by Lauren Marsicano, a graduate of the Youth Leadership Broward program.

2019 Marsicano Scholarship recipient was Natalie Almonte from McArthur High School.
